Welcome to the Meltzer Lab

Our lab uses cutting-edge technologies to analyze the abnormalities in genome structure and function that occur in cancers. These methods include various types of microarray analysis, tissue microarrays, bioinformatic approaches, and next-generation sequencing. We are examining how genes associated with cancer start tumor progression and affect whether a tumor spreads to other parts of the body. We are attempting to refine the classification of cancers, to increase the understanding of how cancer develops at a cellular level, and to identify new targets for potential anticancer therapy, all with the ultimate goal of improving patient care.

To meet these goals, we have a diverse group of researchers who develop novel uses for current techology, develop new technologies, and apply existing technologies to study the cancer genome from as many points of view as possible. An important aspect of this research is a commitment to bioinformatics tool development and the production of online databases to increase the efficiency with which we can ingest the large amounts of data and, importantly, make the data available to the community.
